Instructions for the construction of a driven well
Before starting the well construction you should check the soil conditions. If planned for private use in garden irrigation only the construction of a well often can be started without authorisation. Regional restrictions are possible. The water-producing zone and water table should not be deeper than seven meters. It should consist of gravelly sand. You will get information about the legal situation, depth of groundwater table, nature of the subsoil and water quality (no sources of pollution) by the local authorities (e.g. municipal waterworks or geological survey offices).
Once all these questions are solved you can start with the construction. Begin by digging a pilot hole by using an auger at least until you reach the aquifier. Augers can be borrowed or bought e.g. from some spe- cialist shops or garden centres. After two or three revolutions the auger has always to be pulled out to clean the drill head. Never strike the auger 's handle with a hammer or any similar implement.
Now you can start to drive in the well point with its perforated pipe (18104/18304) which is then connected to solid steel pipes (21304) until the point penetrates the aquifier. Cover the end of the pipes with a drive cap (19614, with steel socket) to protect the seals when driving the well point downwards by hitting it with a hammer or pipe driver. Check that the pipe remains vertical. Please make sure that the threads are carefully sealed with hemp, PTFE or similar seal material when connecting them with sockets. Repeat these steps until the water table depth has been exceeded by at least two or three meters. The filter pipe has to be fully immersed into the water bearing zone so that the pump will not suck in air.
After that feed a hosepipe down the pipe and use water to flush out dirt and sand. The water should drain into the ground.
Only now the three-sided junction pipe with shut off valves (19203) can be con- nected to the handpump as well as to the electric pump. Take care that all threads are sealed carefully.
To connect the well to the motor pump you will need a 1" suction hose (39103), two suction couplings 1" (33403), two hose clamps (34203) and one male threa- ded express coupling 1" (33203).
You should heaten the hose with hot water and then mount it immediately to the greased hose tails. Please do not tighten the clamp's screw too much to avoid damaging the hose when it cools down again.
At first all pumps (e.g. 11002, 11001) have to be filled with water before pumping. It would be best to pump water by hand first.
Warnings: Pipes and filters have to be cleared by rinsing with water before connecting them to the electric pump.
All pumps have to be emptied before the frost period starts to avoid damage caused by frost. We recommend the use of a check valve with drain pipes (51044).
